Petrol Ofisi awarded "Low Carbon Hero" for the 2nd time!

Petrol Ofisi Group was granted the "Low Carbon Hero" award by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) at the 9th Istanbul Carbon Summit hosted by Istanbul Technical University.

The 9th Istanbul Carbon Summit was organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D) under the theme "Risks, Opportunities and Carbon Trading Due to Climate Change". At the summit held at ITU Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Istanbul Technical University, carbon management studies that strengthen environmental, social and governance sustainability indicators in green, digital and circular transformations of organizations were also awarded.

During the "Low Carbon Hero" award ceremony organized within the summit, Petrol Ofisi, Turkey's energy infrastructure group, was deemed worthy of an award for its project "Our Plants are Sunbathing, Our Carbon Footprint is Dropping". İbrahim Başa, Petrol Ofisi Group Brand Marketing Senior Manager, received the award on behalf of the company. Within the scope of the project, more than 2,000 solar energy panels installed at Petrol Ofisi Lubricants production plant in September 2023 generate energy that meets 30 percent of the plant's electricity needs. Since the start of the project, which reduces greenhouse gas impact through energy recovery, over 500 thousand KWH of energy was generated in the first 7 months and 270 tons of carbon emissions were prevented.

Commenting on the award, Sezgin Gürsu, Petrol Ofisi Group Lubricants Director says, "As Petrol Ofisi Group, we are investing in existing product technologies while carrying out pioneering work in renewable energy for our future. Our lubricants facility in Derince district of Kocaeli is one of the best examples of these efforts. By this means, we are reducing our carbon footprint a little more every day in line with our net zero target for 2050. Currently, we meet approximately one third of the electricity production in our factory through our solar energy panels. We plan to increase this production to two thirds in the following phases. We are delighted to receive such a prominent award that recognizes the success of this project, which we believe will contribute significantly to our sustainable business model in the long term. As we have done so far, we will continue to add value to our industry and thus to the economy with the positive impacts we will deliver for our country in the future."

Last year, Petrol Ofisi Group used 25 percent plastic recycling material in the packaging of its new Maxima engine oil, which was specially developed by an expert industrial design team, and was thus deemed worthy of an award for its contribution to sustainable production and consumption.
